ALBERT F. AUGER, GROVETON'S OLDEST VETERAN, died at the age of 94 on March 6, 2008 at the Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster, were he had been a resident for only a brief time, after a brief illness. Born April 17, 1913 in Groveton, NH a son of Leon and Alma (Jalbert) Auger he was a lifelong resident of Groveton. On October 13, 1944 Albert married Flora Cass and together they raised two daughters Sally Ann and Marlene. Albert was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII for three years. During his tenure in the Army he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations for eight month with the 42nd General Hospital and worked as a barber in a hospital barber shop. When he returned to Groveton he went back to work at Groveton Paper Company and worked for a total of 44 years for them before retiring April 19, 1978. Albert was a member of the St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish at St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton. He was a life member of the Groveton VFW post 6808. Albert enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed building furniture for his wife and two daughters. Albert is survived by his wife of 63 years Flora (Cass) Auger of Groveton; two daughters and their husbands Sally Ann Auger and husband John of St. Paul, Minnesota and Marlene Champagne and husband Truman of Littleton; one grandson Marty Parks and two great granddaughters Jennifer Parks and Jessie Parks; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings; Leona; Irene; Willie; Amie; Louis "Ses"; Emma and Violet. Calling hours will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton with the service immediately following at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Deveau pastor of St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish officiating. Burial will be in late May in the Northumberland Cemetery.
