August 22, 1940 – January 6, 2020
Armand L. Girouard Jr., 79, of Groveton, passed away on January 6 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Born in Berlin on August 22, 1940, he was the son of Armand L and Clarida (Fontaine) Girouard. He attended Berlin schools and graduated from Notre Dame High School, where he was a defenseman on the 1957 New England High School Hockey Championship-winning team.
After graduation, he went on to proudly serve in the United States Air Force, spending time in Europe. Upon his return, he played hockey with the Berlin Maroons for many years.
Armand married Sheri (King) on October 15, 1966, and settled in Groveton where they raised two children. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, camping with his family, hunting and fishing at Dummer Pond. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cards, spending time with friends and family, and cheering for his beloved Montreal Canadiens. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17.
He is survived by his children Vicki and husband Butch Germain of Littleton and Pete and daughter-in-law Maranda of Gorham, granddaughters Madison Girouard and Felicia Voisine; brothers Ernie Vienneau and Pauline of Berlin, Leo Girouard and Sue of Jeffersonville VT; sisters Marcia Smith of Tilton, Paulette and Bob Lamontagne of Lincoln, Alice and Roger Barrette of Berlin, Jeannette and Ron Vallee of South Carolina, Joan and Rick Daley of Stark; and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years on October 10, 2019; his parents, and an infant brother Paul.
Calling hours for Armand and Sheri will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 6-8 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton officiating. Burial will be on Friday, June 12, 2020, at 1:00 pm in the St. Francis Cemetery on Brown Road in Groveton.
