Obituary

BARBARA MAY (STEWART) PLATT, 83, the daughter of Ruby (Pierce) and Edgar Stewart was born on January 11, 1933 in Lancaster, NH.  After a courageous four year battle with cancer she went to her final resting place on the Summer Solstice, June 20, 2016.

Barbara worked for many years at the Gilman Mill and for James River Corp, retiring in 1988. She was a volunteer for the RSVP and the Groveton Thrift Shop for many years.

Barbara was the most devoted, loving, caring, mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Her sweet, kind, sensitive temperament was known by all that her life touched.

She was a master seamstress and quilter. She created some of the most beautiful works of art that will be cherished and treasured by family and friends throughout time. These amazing timeless keepsakes are a colorful reminder of her and her life.

There wasn't a crossword puzzle that Barbara didn't conquer. She was an avid reader who enjoyed the works of various authors and genres. She could identify all of the birds that she took the pleasure in feeding daily. Her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren.

Barbara was a loyal, valued blood donor with the American Red Cross. She gave of herself selflessly in her humble, quiet way as long as she was physically able, she was always thinking of others.

A quote by a famous philosopher exemplifies Barbara's true spirit: "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Lao Tzu

Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hadley J. Platt of Groveton; three daughters Evangeline "Vangie" Davis and husband David of Madison, NH; Carolyn McQuiston of Lancaster and Rebecca "Becky" Scott and husband Steve of Hampton, NH; three grandchildren, Niya Lutar Graeber; Marcie McQuiston Brundle and Patrick Scott, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters Carolyn Hawes and Evangeline Smith.
