BARRY "UNCLE BARREL" GLENN WENTWORTH died suddenly at his home on June 19, 2019, just thirteen days after his 76th birthday.
Barry was born on June 6, 1943 in Berlin, N.H. a son of Glenn A. and Lucille G. (Demers) Wentworth. He had been a resident of Stark his whole life.
Barry was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the 2nd Engineer Battalion and served during the Vietnam era. He was heavily involved in the establishment and growth of the Stark Volunteer Fire Department for more than 40 years, fulfilling many roles including that of Assistant Chief and later Chief of the department. Additionally, Barry was the Road Agent for the Town of Stark for several years. Using his acquired knowledge from his time in the Army, he was also a heavy equipment operator and truck driver under a number of construction companies in New Hampshire and Maine.
His hobbies included collecting trains; brook fishing; building models; and discussing politics. Barry was a dedicated man who loved his cats and helping those around him.
Barry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Lunn) Wentworth, of Stark; their three daughters, Melissa Shannon and companion Bill Pontius of Sebring, FL, Tricia Provencher and husband Armand of Berlin, and Kera Theriault and husband Doug of Gorham; four grandchildren, Brice and wife Moriah, Danielle, Janessa, and Adrianna; two brothers, Clark Wentworth and wife Judy of Stark and Allen Wentworth and late wife Carol of Dummer; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Tuttle, of Stark; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 5-8 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. A graveside service with Military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Sand Hill Cemetery in Dummer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barry's name to the Stark Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary C/O Jack Pepeau: 1276 Stark Highway, Stark, NH 03582.
