CAROLYN H. (MILES) BENWAY 78, of Groveton died peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster with her loving family by her side.

Carolyn was born in Groveton, NH on June 27, 1938 and has been a resident of Groveton all of her life.  She was a graduate of Groveton High School class of 1956.

Carolyn worked at the Spaulding Inn Club for many years; she started in the kitchen and worked her way up to Executive House Keeper. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Roberts Motors.

She was a member of the Groveton American Legion Auxiliary, Post # 17 and she loved golfing, motorcycles; bowling; square-dancing (she was a member of the Skirts and Flirts); SUDUKO puzzles, camping and tubing. She also enjoyed knitting and made mittens for her family and friends and baby sweater sets for the Groveton Thrift Shop and the Legion Auxiliary Christmas sales.

She loved her road trips down South and to Bourbon Street in Louisiana and to Maine. She and "Timer" mad many of these trips with her brother and sister-in-law Dave and Shirley.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Terry Hartley of Groveton; three grandchildren Brian Davenport; Jennifer Benway both of Groveton and Lisa Meisenheimer of Woodsville, NH; eight great-grandchildren; her brother David Miles of Groveton and her grand-dog Pobe.

Carolyn was predeceased by one infant son Lawrence Henry Benway; her husband of 51 years Edmund "Timer" Benway on March 25, 2008 and her sister-in-law Shirley Miles on August 4, 2016.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 17, 2016 from 5-8 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. A Graveside service will be on Thursday August 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Northumberland Cemetery.
