CELESTE E. (PHELPS) SMITH, 85 of Main Street, Groveton died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at Week's Medical Center, Lancaster. Born April 4, 1923 in Jefferson, NH a daughter of Cedric O. and Hazel (Ingerson) Phelps, she has been a resident of Groveton since 1942, coming from Lancaster. Celeste was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church; the VFW Auxiliary of Lancaster and the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #17 Groveton. She loved raising flowers and being with her cat Brandie, the joy of her life. Before retiring Celeste worked as a waitress and short order cook for Everett's Diner in Groveton. Celeste is survived by her son Joseph J. Smith, Jr. and his partner Gloria Gibson of Groveton; daughter Janet M. Thomas and husband Steve of Sacramento, CA; three grandchildren; one brother Frederick Phelps of Groveton; three sisters Millie Kennett of Groveton; Beverly Deline of New Haven, CT and Shirley Towers of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph J, Smith, Sr. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home, Groveton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Groveton United Methodist Church with Pastor Aaron Cox, officiating.
