DONALD F. "DON" COLLINS, 82, formerly of Eames Street, Groveton, died peacefully at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center Saturday, January 2, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Born May 10, 1927 in Colebrook, NH a son of Walace and Nellie (Parker) Collins, he resided most of his life in the St. Johnsbury, Middlesex and Rochester, VT areas. He moved to Groveton in 1992 and lived there until he moved into the rehab center a few years ago. Don was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Post #28, North Troy, VT. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Groveton High School. Before retiring he was employed by Welch Roofing as a roofer. He is survived by one sister Janice Bettis of California; one step-son Darwin Dingman of North Troy, VT; few grandchildren and a few great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Hazel (Westover) Collins on November 24, 1992; a sister Everdean Wheeler and a brother Alvo Collins. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the funeral service following at 1:00pm with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the spring in the Northumberland Cemetery.
