EDMUND LAWRENCE "TIMER" "BEN" BENWAY, 74, of Groveton, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, March 25, with his loving family by his side, after a lengthy illness. Born in North Conway, NH on July 22, 1933 a son of John and Katherine (McGee) Benway, he grew up in Bartlett and was a graduate of the Bartlett High School, class of 1951. Timer served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. While visiting Groveton on leave with a friend, he met Carolyn Miles, whom he married a few years later. He moved to Groveton fifty-one years ago and worked for James River and Wausau Papers retiring on August 8, 1998. Timer was a member of the American Legion, Post #17 and the United Methodist Church in Groveton. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, walking and just generally being outdoors. He was an avid bowler, bowling on the Lancaster Bowling League in both the couples and men's divisions for many years. Timer also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and traveling. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all whom knew him Timer is survived by his wife if 51 years Carolyn (Miles) Benway of Groveton; his daughter Susan B. Hartley and her husband Terry of Westbrook, ME; three grandchildren Brian Davenport and (wife) Katrina Boudle of North Stratford, NH; Jennifer Benway and her boyfriend Neil Gendron of Westbrook, ME; and Lisa Meisenheimer and her significant other Joe Sargent of North Stratford, NH; eight great grandchildren and three siblings Frederick Benway and his wife Nita of Stark; Betty Ann Damon and her husband Merle of Groveton; and Rose Lee and her husband Philip of Vermont. Timer was predeceased by his parents, an infant son Lawrence Henry Benway and a brother William Benway. At Timer's request there will be no calling hours or service at this time. A graveside service with full military honors will be held in May in the Northumberland Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
