Obituary

ELEANOR MAE (LAKIN) BACON, 82, of State Street, Groveton died peacefully at Week's Medical Center in Lancaster on Friday, December 27, 2013 after a lengthy illness; surrounded by her loving family. Mae was born on November 3, 1931 in Groveton, NH a daughter of the late William and Edna (Haynes) Lakin. She was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1950. On May 15, 1952 she married Earl S. Bacon and because of Earl's work with Hoosier Engineering they moved away for six years then returned to Groveton. Mae was a descendant of Edward Doty, a passenger on the Mayflower and was a member of the Doty Society. She was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church where she was very active in the Methodist Women's Group and worked many luncheons and suppers over the years. She was a Lay Leader for the church; past financial secretary and Sunday school teacher. Before retiring in 1989 she was the Food Service Director for SAU 58 for over twenty years. She was a past Boys and Girls Scout leader; she volunteered at the Groveton Thrift Shop for over ten years; led the weekly gatherings at Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center for many years; and collected for the United Way. Mae had received "Volunteer of the Year". She loved to knit and crochet mittens and scarfs and donated then to charity. She is survived by son Mark Bacon of Groveton; daughter Bonnie Losavio and husband Joseph Sr. of Southbridge, MA; five grandchildren Nicole Losavio; Joseph Losavio, Jr. and fiancée Jennifer Malcolm; Brittani-Lee King and husband Korey; Rebecca Losavio; and Matthew Losavio; one special niece Arlene Theriault of Groveton and several nieces and nephews. Mae was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Earl S. Bacon, Sr.; one son Earl S. Bacon, Jr.; and six siblings, Leta Donovan; Bill Lakin; Alfred Lakin; Edna Lang; Leon Lakin and "Popeye" Lakin. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 31st at the Groveton United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Pastor Aaron Cox officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Northumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Eleanor Mae's name to the Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center; Activities Department; 91 Country Village Road; Lancaster, NH 03584.
