IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eleanor
Hook
October 15, 1935 – April 28, 2017
Mary Eleanor (Platt) Hook, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on Friday morning, April 28, 2017, with her loving family by her side at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH.
Eleanor, as she was known to friends and family, was born and raised in Groveton, NH, to parents Joseph and Mary (Goulet) Platt. She graduated from Groveton High School in 1954 and maintained a connection with many of her classmates throughout her life, holding affection for being among the "Hill Kids."
Within three years after finishing high school she met the man who would become the love of her life and husband of 46 years, Laurence Hook, on a blind date. While Eleanor wore various hats, including a time working at Wyoming Paper, it was in her devotion to her husband and family that she found her deepest calling. Truly, there was nothing more important to Eleanor than her family and the time that she spent with them. She and Laurence raised a large, close-knit and devoted family that has remained so, even as it continues to grow, leaving a legacy of love and family loyalty stretching into the newest generation of great-grandchildren.
Faith was an important part of her life and she was an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish in North Stratford throughout her adult life. A firm believer in the power of prayer, Eleanor enjoyed traveling to the Cathedral of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre in Quebec, where she would, as she taught her family, pray for the needs of others before her own.
She loved her home and her land in Brunswick, spending countless days picking berries and watching the deer and turkeys as they crossed the yard. She enjoyed reading on her back porch and the long conversations with family members and friends she would have there. She was always happy to talk about the lives and achievements of her children and grandchildren, so many of whom found their own calling in service to others. If her family was her life, the love she left behind is the legacy that she and Laurence created.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Laurence Hook; daughter Janet Hook; great-grandson Mason Parsons; and sister Jean Doolan.
She is survived by her children Robert (Linda) Hook, Martha (Jerry) Kennett, Dorothy (Timothy) Meunier and Laurence Jr (John) Hook; her grandchildren Jason (Debra) Hook, Benjamin Hook, Amy Parsons, Christie (Jay) Weir, Ryan (Natalie) Kennett, Alyssa (Christopher) Locklear, Andrew Rainville, and Crystal, Brent and Dana Meunier; and her great-grandchildren Jackson and Cooper Weir, Wyatt and Will Parsons, Jerry and Chase Locklear, Sabriel and Carolyne Kennett, and Madeline Hook; and siblings Hadley (Barbara, dec.) Platt, John (Corrine) Platt, Robert (Rita, dec.) Platt, and Louise (Dennis) Charron. Eleanor is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in-laws, all of whom were special to and loved dearly by her.
