ELEANOR M. "ELLIE" (CURTIS) JEWELL, of Groveton, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Country-Village Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster after a lengthy illness. Born in East Charleston, VT a daughter of Clyde M. and Madeline (Buck) Curtis she has been a resident of Groveton most of her life coming from Stratford. "Ellie" was a graduate of Stratford High School, class of 1942. During her high school years she was a member of the State Champion Basketball team and a member of the Glee Club. She was a member of the Groveton United Methodist Church. Ellie worked at the nursing home in North Stratford, then at Week's Memorial Hospital in Lancaster and then in the hot lunch program in the Groveton School District for many years before retiring. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed watching Soap Operahs, visiting with friends and reading Daniel Steale books. Ellie is survived by her three sons, Bradley Jewell and wife Linda; Curtis Jewell and wife Judy all of Groveton; and Scott Jewell and wife Jennifer of Littleton; two daughters Pamela Welcome and husband Paul "Bill" of Belmont, NH and Marilyn Morgenthau and husband Alan of Hillsborough and Hong Kong; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother Dwaine Curtis and wife Joy of Canaan, VT; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents; her husband John P. Jewell on June 19, 2003; one sister Geraldine Parker and one brother Ermand Curtis. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
