ELIZABETH L. "BETTY" (GAY) BEATON, 93, formerly of Cumberland Street, Groveton, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Epsom Manor in Epsom were she had been a resident for the past 18 years. Born January 20, 1916 in Groveton, NH a daughter of Marcus B. and Mary E. (Clancy) Gay, she was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1934. She went to Concord Business School. Betty was a pipefitter assistant at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during WWII. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton and a past member of the Daughters of Isabella. Betty worked in the kitchen for the Knights of Columbus Bingo nights for 25 years, she also volunteered at the Groveton Thrift Shop for many years. Betty enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons Paul Beaton of Bryant Pond, Maine and Randy Beaton of Stark, NH; one daughter Pamela Whitcomb of Epsom, NH and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Paul M. Beaton in 1996. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 pm at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor officiating. Interment will be in the St. Francis Cemetery in the spring.
