EMMAGENE MARTHA "JEAN" (LAYTHE) SHATNEY, 74, of Main Street, Colebrook died peacefully at her home, with her children by her side on December 24, 2012. She was born in Wheelock, Vermont on October 6, 1938 a daughter of Frank A. and Geneva M. (Sanborn) Laythe and has been a resident of Colebrook since 1968. Jean had worked for seven years until October 14, 2012 at the Family Dollar in Colebrook when she became too ill to work anymore. Jean loved to work and spend time with her family. Jean is survived by her three children Janis Riley and husband Daniel of Laconia, NH; John H. Shatney and wife Tricia of Colebrook; and Janine MacMahan and husband Dan of Guildhall, VT; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Three siblings also survive her; Maxine Roberts of Keene, NH; Esther Pritchard and husband Don of Belmont, NH; and Frank "Sonny" Laythe of Boston, MA and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years John Urban Shatney in 2001; one grandson John James Shatney; and two sisters Frances Caron and Alberta Gadwah. At Jean's request there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
