EVELYN LOUISE (GROSS) SHOFF, 97, formerly of Preble Street in Groveton, died Monday Morning, January 7, 2013 at Country Village Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster where she had been a resident for the past four years. She had been presented with the Boston Post Cane for being the eldest resident of the Town of Northumberland on November 19, 2012. Evelyn was born on October 31, 1915 in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania the daughter of Dr. Reuben C. Gross, VMD and Sarah Jane (Gross) Gross. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1933 then Central Pennsylvania Business College in 1934. Evelyn moved to Groveton in 1947 after living in Washington, DC for seven years and in Maine for one year. Mrs. Shoff was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown, PA; the Lutheran Church of Reformation in Washington, DC; Groveton United Methodist Church; the Groveton United Methodist Women; was the past secretary and treasurer; Communion Steward; Mission Outreach Coordinator; Pianist for the Nursing Home Ministry Team and secretary for the Groveton Thrift Shop Volunteer Group. She was a member of the Elizabethtown Chapter #407 O.E.S.; Pilot Chapter #65, Groveton, past Matron; Adah Chapter #39, Concord, VT; Willena Benton Chapter #48 of Guildhall, VT; Grand Representative from NH to PA in 1960; Grand Representative from VT to PA in 1983; was past President and Secretary of the Groveton Senior Citizens Club and a Volunteer at Week's Memorial Hospital. Over the years Mrs. Shoff worked from 1936 - 1939 for the Pennsylvania Securities Communications in Harrisburg, PA; 1939 - 1946 for the Office of Commandant, Headquarters, for the U.S. Marine Corps in Washington, DC as a Civilian Employment Officer then from 1958 - 1978 when she retired as the Secretary to the President and Sales at Diamond International and Groveton Papers. Evelyn is survived by her two sons Carl Shoff and wife Nancy of Plymouth, NH and West Rotunda, FL and Dean Schoff and wife Anna of Tucson, AZ; one niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by her husband F. Lynwood Shoff in 1985. Funeral services will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
