Obituary

F. ARTHUR McKEARNEY, 82, of Stratford Hollow, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. Despite his recorded age, Art always claimed to remain 39 years old.

Arthur was born on May 16, 1941, in Groveton, NH a son of the late F. Carl and Helen I. (Styles) McKearney. Arthur grew up in Groveton until he and his high school sweetheart Leona moved to Stratford in 1966, where they raised their three children and several foster children. He was a well-liked, hard worker in several departments at Groveton Papers for over 4 decades, until his retirement.

Art had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding four-wheelers. He enjoyed his quilted flannel shirts, peanut butter fudge, and Tammy's homemade donuts. He was an extremely active and loyal member of the North Country ATV Club. He was also a member of the "Over the Hill Gang". He enjoyed being among many of his cherished friends. Despite Arthur's many passions, his biggest was being an extremely dedicated and selfless husband to his wife Leona, and an amazing "Papa" to his grandchildren. In fact, he was such a dedicated grandfather, that half of his grandchildren named his great-grand-babies after him. He enjoyed taking his great-grandchildren fishing.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 62 years Leona (Potter) McKearney; a daughter Tammy McKearney (& Bob Bean); a son Wade McKearney all of Stratford Hollow; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister Wava Adams and husband Jerry of Groveton; and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was predeceased in addition to his parents, one son Edwin "Eddie" McKearney on December 15, 2021; along with several other very much loved family members.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Northumberland Cemetery in Groveton, with Fr. Timothy Brooks of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lancaster officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made in Arthur's name to the North Country ATV Club; PO Box 161, North Stratford, NH 03590.
