GARY LEON "PAPA"MC GUIRE, 78, of Route 102 Guildhall, died peacefully April 30, 2012, at Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster after a long illness. Born in Groveton, NH on April 16, 1934 he was a son of Harry and Rilma (Prince) Maguire. Gary grew up in Groveton and joined the US Navy after high school and served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft after working for them for 37 years. He moved to Guildhall with his fiancée Sue Ann Simpson seventeen years ago from Wethersfield, CT. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his gardens, spending time outdoors, cooking on his rotisserie, canning, and making sausage. He was a life member of the Groveton American Legion, post # 17. Gary is survived by his fiancée of 17 years Sue Ann Simpson of Guildhall; three step-children Joelle Bastian and her significant other Hank of Lancaster; John Rooney and wife Jody of Lancaster; and Bobby Simpson and his significant other Angie of Lancaster; eleven loving grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; six siblings Bethany Gould of Groveton; Belvah King of Groveton; Barbara Huber of New York; Deane Maguire of Fall River, Mass; Gloria Nugent of Dublin England; and James McGuire of East Hartford, CT; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Forrest "Mickey" Maguire and John McGuire. At Gary's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 1:00 pm in the Center Cemetery in North Stratford, NH with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
