BERLIN/STARK GEORGE WILLIAM HEATH, 79, of Serenity Circle, Berlin, died peacefully Thursday, January 19, 2006 at St. Vincent De Paul Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Born November 1, 1926 in Huntington, Mass. a son of Earl G. and Ida M. (Finkle) Heath, he has been a resident of the North Country since 1982. He was a graduate of Huntington High School, class of 1944. He worked as a custodian for the Huntington Regional School District for many years before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. George was a member of the Antique Radio Club, enjoyed repairing electrical things; reading; photography and going for rides. He was an avid gardener and canner. George was a life member of the American Legion, Post # 17, Groveton; he received his 60 year membership pin. He was the current Post 17 and District 8 Historian; District Chaplain and Post Adjutant. He was past Post Commander; past Post Chaplain and past District Commander. He lead all of the Memorial Day and Flag Day ceremonies. He was the Bingo finance officer for 15 plus years. He has received many 100% membership pins during his times in office. He attended the National World War II Memorial Dedication ceremonies and received a Thank You pin from that. George was one of the most faithful and loyal Legionnaires around. He also enjoyed the children and teaching them about the American Flag and history. He will be missed by all whom know him in both the Legion and around town. He was also a member of the VFW. He was survived by his wife of 33 years Judith (Grover) Heath of Berlin; two brothers Earl Heath, Jr. and Robert Heath both of Huntington, MA along with a few nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both his parents and two sisters. At Georges request there will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 23, 2006 at the Errol Congregational Church; Route 16; Errol, NH with Rev. Lawrence, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Errol Town Cemetery.
