HERBERT "SONNY" WILLIAM CUMMINGS, JR., 78, of Littleton, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at his home, with his loving family by his side, after a lengthy illness.

Sonny was born on October 29, 1945, in Portsmouth, NH the son of the late Herbert William Cummings and Marie P. (Gaudette) Levine. He was a resident of Groveton since he was six until moving to Littleton three years ago.

Before retiring, Sonny worked as a mechanic in the maintenance department for all of the paper mills in Groveton for thirty-three years. He built his own garage at his home in Groveton.

Sonny was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 59 years Viola "Dolly" Cummings of Littleton, two sons Allen Cummings and wife Lucie of Littleton, and William Cummings of Gray Maine, one daughter Sherry Manville and Jeremy Greene of Groveton, nine grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren, two sisters Ida Gibbons of Maine and Shirley Young of Somersworth, NH, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by in addition to his parents, his step-father, and one grandson Scott Cummings.

At Sonny's request, there will be no services at this time. A private gathering will be at the convenience of the family.
