James H. Emerson, 78, passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and type 2 diabetes on August 9, 2014. Jim was born in Lancaster, NH on March 31, 1936 to Dorothy (Barber) and Ralph J. Emerson. On March 31, 1962, he married Kathleen (Gallant) Emerson, who survives him. Jim graduated at the top of his class from Groveton High School in 1954. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army medical corps in France and Germany for four years. Other than those 4 years in the Army, he spent his entire life in Groveton. He owned and operated Emerson & Son Hardware store in Groveton for over 50 years. An avid sportsman, Jim loved to hunt and fish at his beloved camp on Parmachenee Lake, Maine. He also was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan, as well as a lifelong supporter of Groveton High School athletics and enjoyed volunteering as the basketball scorekeeper for over 20 years. Mr. Emerson is survived by his wife, Kathleen, a sister, Dawn (Dr. Wayne) Richards of Medford, New Jersey and three sons, Kevin (Dorothy) of Groveton, Brian of Groveton, and Andrew (Samantha) of Maidstone Lake, Vermont. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren (Dana, Melissa, Amy Beth, Joshua, Timothy, Jacob, Ethan, MacKenzie, Lacey, and Xander) and 8 great grandchildren (Rebekah, Chloe, Noah, Makailyn, Gale, Isaiah, Gabriel, and Rhylie). He was predeceased by his parents, a son Michael Ralph Emerson in 1969 and a great-grandson David Michael Emerson in 1999. As per Jim's request, there will not be a funeral. There will be a celebration of his life at his camp on Parmachenee Lake, Maine at a later date.
