JAMES "JIM" DURWOOD GONYER, 73, Of Old Village Road, passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side on April 30, 2008 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, NH on June 5, 1935 one of fourteen children of Lawrence and Mildred (Smith) Gonyer he resided most of his live in the Groveton/Northumberland area. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict era. Before retiring he worked for more than thirty years for James Wemyss; Diamond International and retiring under the ownership of James River Corp. in the late 1980's. Jim was a member of the American Legion post #17, were he served as the Sergeant of Arms for many years. He helped build the American Legion in Groveton. He was a member of the St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton. He was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Groveton. Jim loved spending time at camp on South Pond in Stark, fishing, hunting, wood working and was known as a "Jack-of-all-traits". He enjoyed bowling, shooting-shoes (horseshoes) and playing cribbage. Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years Millicent "Millie" (Cloutier) Gonyer of Northumberland; children James M. Gonyer and wife Roxanne of Groveton; Dana Gonyer and girlfriend Lyn Grover both of Northumberland and Kelley Brooks and husband John, Jr. of Lancaster; three grandchildren Mandy Valdez; Daegan Gonyer and Delenn Brooks along with two great grandchildren Malakai Valdez and Triston Valdez and one on the way. Six of Jim's siblings survive him, Larry Gonyer and wife Rita of Bow, NH; John Gonyer and wife Nina of Maidstone, VT; Ronald Gonyer of Stewartstown, NH; Thomas Gonyer and wife Sandra of Groveton; Pauline Papineau of Lebanon, NH and Marilyn "Mime" Cronk and husband Lin of Chicopee, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by both his parents and seven siblings, Neil, Dolly, Barbara, Paul, Russell, Natalie and Romona. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations in James' name to be made to the Hospice of Week's Medical Center; 278 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03582.
