JAMES MAURICE MacDOW, of Old Village Rd., Northumberland, died peacefully and received his wings at The Morrison in Whitefield just thirteen days after his 89 th birthday.
Maurice, as he was known by most, was born on April 11, 1932 in Berlin, NH a son of the late James Isaac MacDow and Maevis Elaine (Barrows) MacDow. He was a graduate of Stratford High School, Class of 1950 and has been a resident of Northumberland most of his life.
After high school, Maurice enlisted into the US Army in October, 1952 and served his country during the Korean Conflict until October 1954. Before retiring, he worked in the number 1 Finishing room and the Clarifiers for James River/Wausau Papers until retirement June 30, 1994.
Maurice loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle; go camping; and antique cars. He was a member of the Groveton American Legion and VFW.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 70 years Shirley (deBanville) MacDow of Northumberland; daughter Lisa MacDow Lavigne and husband Patrick of Goffstown, NH; three granddaughters Megan Savage; Kaitlyn Savage; and Gabrielle Lavigne; one great-grandson Corey Belanger and one niece Diane Hodgdon.
Calling hours with COVID restrictions (masks and social distancing) will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 5-8 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home; 100 State St.; Groveton. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Patricia Williams of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Northumberland Cemetery.
