JANE ANN “MAMMA” (HURLEY) HOPPS, 83, of Groveton and formerly of Stark, passed away quietly on the evening of Sunday, January 18, 2026, with her family by her side.
She was born in Cohasset, MA., on June 19, 1942, the daughter of the late James Michael and Josephine Agnes (Felton) Hurley.
Jane graduated from Cohasset High School in 1961. During her high school years, she completed the training program for the Civil Defense Emergency Hospital. Keeping busy, she was also in the Glee Club, Cheerleading, mixed chorus, and dance committee.
In 1965, a son was born, and then the family moved to Stratford, NH. Soon after, in 1968, they welcomed a daughter.
On December 31, 1970, Jane married Francis Hopps, Jr., and in 1971, another daughter was born. The family resided in Stark for many years, and Jane remained there until she moved to Groveton several years ago.
Jane was very active in the community along with her husband. They were two of the founding members of the Stark Improvement Fund, of which she was a member of for over 35 years, and during her years in Stark, she was also on the Stark School Board for 21 years, Stark Planning Board for many years, Ballot Clerk for many years, a member of the Stark Church Pew Owners Association, and Treasurer for SAU 58 for 5 years..
Francis and Jane were foster parents for several children over a span of many years. This included the Fresh-Air Fund, which welcomed children from the inner cities into their home for the summer.
Jane was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and especially NASCAR, and Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver. She very much enjoyed camping at Loudon with family and friends for many years.
Raising the children kept her super busy with all of them being involved in school sports and coaching her girls for baton twirling competitions and parades.
Jane really enjoyed cooking, and her baking skills were top-notch. Maintaining her yard, gardens, and flowers were some of her favorite hobbies.
Jane is survived by her three children Paul and wife Maricel of Cicero, NY, Deborah of Acworth, GA, and Jennifer and husband Chris of Groveton, one brother James of Sarasota, CA., and one sister Lois of Cohasset, MA., twelve grandchildren Shane, Nathan, Savannah, Nicole, Katie, Zack, Preston, Ethan, Cecilia, Hayleigh, Naomi, and Kyrie, and many great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis, a sister Carol, and an infant granddaughter, Samantha Jane Ann.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jane's name to the North Country Home Health and Hospice, 536 Cottage St., Littleton, NH 03561.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home, 100 State St., Groveton. A funeral service will be on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 1:00 pm in the Stark Union Church, 6 Northside Road, Stark, NH. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Emerson Road Cemetery in Stark.
