Obituary

JOAN IVA LaPOINTE, 88, formerly of the McKee Inn in Lancaster, died peacefully at The Morrison in Whitefield where she has been a resident since February 2020.

Joan was born in Lancaster, NH on June 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Earl C. and Della McMann of North Stratford, NH.

Joan spent her youth in North Stratford and was a graduate of Stratford High School. She lived in Groveton and Stark for many years before moving to Lancaster.

Over the years, Joan worked in the cafeteria at Stratford High School, and for the James River Paper Co. in Groveton.

Joan loved cooking and taking care of her family as they worked on the McMann Dairy Farm. Her children fondly remember heaping bowls of delicious food nourishing them for the hard work that farm life required. Joan attended her children's school events. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader, spending lots of time in the stands watching sports.

She was "Nana" to her 3 grandchildren who loved spending time with her and hearing stories about her life and the life of their parents. She often visited her children and grandchildren in Virginia and Alaska, making the kind of memories that last a lifetime.

She loved being outdoors and walking in nature. She spent many hours strolling around her home and her neighborhood.

Joan was a friend to many and quite a social butterfly. She enjoyed traveling, visiting, and vacationing with her family and friends. In her later years, her daughter, Della, and her niece, Joyce, made sure she made it to as many get-togethers and events around New England as possible. Being out in her community always put a smile on her face.

Joan is survived by her three children Hal A. LaPointe and wife Stephany of Anchorage, AK; Della LaPointe of Whitefield; and Ross LaPointe of Port Charlotte, Florida; three grandchildren; Hal, Abigail, and Jeremiah; eight great-grand-children and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, her three brothers Harland McMann, George McMann, and Wayne McMann, and her sisters, Joyce McMann and Jean Campbell.

Joan will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 12:00 noon in the Center Cemetery in Stratford, with Fr. Timothy Brooks of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating.
