Obituary

Joan (Ellis) Ramsay, 92, formerly of Groveton NH passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20th at her home in Camarillo, CA.

Joan was born at home in North Stratford, NH on May 9, 1932, daughter of the late Marjorie (Taylor) Ellis and George Halsey Ellis. Joan spent her youth in North Stratford, NH where she attended elementary and high school before moving with her family to Gorham, NH in 1946. She was a graduate of Gorham High School in 1950. Following graduation, she attended North Hampton Business School for 2 years and transferred her studies to UNH.

Joan later worked for several years at New England Power Company in Littleton, NH. She returned to Gorham and married Gordon (Robert) Ramsay on January 12, 1957. During her years in Gorham, Joan was active in the Woman's Club and the Gorham Congregational Church, having served as secretary to Reverend John Russell for several years. In 1973, the family moved to Groveton, NH where she resided until April 2020 when she relocated to Camarillo CA to be closer to family.

Joan's talents were wide-ranging including rug-braiding, refinishing furniture, collecting antiques, gardening, needlepoint and sewing all things (clothing, draperies, bedspreads). Throughout her remarkable 92 years, she exemplified unwavering love and strength. She stood faithfully by her husband Gordon's side, providing tireless and loving care until his last days, a testament to her deep commitment to family. Her life-long friendships, nurtured over 70+ years, were a reflection of her loyalty and warmth. Above all, her children and grandchildren were the center of her universe, with her love for them shining brightly for the world to see. Dedicated to helping others, even while dealing with her own physical limitations, she volunteered for hospice for many years, creating memory bears for North Country (NH) Hospice Services for those mourning their loved ones. Now, as we grieve her passing, we find comfort in the legacy of love and compassion that she leaves behind.

Joan is survived by her family: daughter and son-in-law, Rhianne and Karl Steins of La Mesa CA and their daughter, Courtlynn; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Aleasha Ramsay of Westlake Village CA and their children, Jared, Bryce, Micaela and Ava; daughter-in-law, Sally (Ramsay) Ruthenbeck of Kerrville, TX and children, Kerensa and Rylan; sister, Jean (Robert) Neil of Inverness, FL; brother-in-laws, Richard (Jeannie) Ramsay and Bobby (Debbie) Ramsay; sister-in-law Mary (Neil) Stam and several nephews and nieces.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Gordon Ramsay; son Bruce Ramsay; brother John Ellis; sister Lorraine Bushman and her parents George and Marjorie Ellis.
