JOEL D. KENNETT, 59 of Groveton, died peacefully on October 3, 2015 at his home after a brave two year battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, NH on October 23, 1955 one of ten children, he was the son of the late Bernard and the late Corinne (Rich) Kennett and a graduate of Stratford High School, Class of 1974. After high school he served in the U.S. Army from 1974-1993. He then came back and made his home at the Kennett Homestead in Groveton and continued working for Ethan Allen, Wausau Papers of NH, Bretton Woods Ski Area, Riverside Speedway, and Tender Corporation. Joel enjoyed NASCAR racing and was avid fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He was a strong supporter of the local short tracks and was a faithful fan of Randy Potter and nephews "Magic Shoes" Mike Rainville and Christopher "Cridda" Shannon. He was a season ticket holder at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and enjoyed camping at Speedway Sports Park during race weeks. He enjoyed camping at and attending the Lancaster Fair, spending time with his family, watching his nieces and nephews grow and attending their various activities. He enjoyed 4 wheeling and snowmobiling. He found special joy during the holidays. Joel was a coin collection enthusiast and a faithful Chevy man. Joel took an active interest in the town's activities and was an elected Trustee of Trust Funds member for several years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 3808. He is survived by his son John A. Kennett and wife Amber of Bellevue, Nebraska; sister Jody Sweatt and husband Stewart of Milton, NH; sister-in-law Bethany "Bambi" Kennett of Stratford; seven brothers John Kennett and wife Doris of Valrico, Fl; James Kennett and wife Barbara of Plant City, FL; Jeff Kennett and wife Lee of Loudon, NH; Jerry Kennett and wife Martha of Brunswick, VT; Jay Kennett and wife Penny of Leavenworth, KS; Jules Kennett and wife Barbara of Colebrook, NH; and Joseph "Roach" Kennett and wife Melinda "Min" of Groveton; Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Joel was predeceased by his father Bernard on July 7, 2010, his mother Corinne on June 6, 1996; brother Jesse on May 14, 2010; nephew Jared on June 21, 2008; and sister-in-law Sonia on February 17, 2009. At Joel's request there will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service with Military Honors will be held on October 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Northumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joel's name to the North Country Family Restaurant Kids Go Karts, Speedway 51 Go Kart Track Fund, C/O Jack Call, 4 Hillside Avenue, Groveton, NH 03582.
