JOHN RICHARD "JACK" CAVANAUGH, 85, of Bog Road, Stratford, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, with his loving family by his side, after a lengthy illness.

John was born on May 15, 1938, in Manchester, NH a son of the late Peter E. and Anna (Kierce) Cavanaugh. He had been a resident of Stratford since 1995, coming from Berlin.

John was a veteran of the US Navy and served his country from July 1, 1955 to June 30, 1963.

Before retiring, John worked as a machine tender for Perras Lumber Yard until its closing.

"Jack" married the love of his life, Florabelle (Dion) Stone-Cavanaugh in July 2003. Together they loved to go for walks around Bog Pond.

"Papa Jack" as the kids lovingly called him, loved to go shopping, go out to eat, and spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of twenty years Florabelle Stone-Cavanaugh of Stratford; his son James Cavanaugh of Manchester, NH; three step-children Wanda Stone of Stratford, Seaton Stone and his wife Nichole of Groveton, and Ann Hill and her husband Bill of Colebrook, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by one son.

There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
