Obituary

JOHN EDWARD PLATT, 82 , of Graham St, Groveton, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at his home after a very courageous battle with cancer.

John was born on January 12, 1940, in Groveton, NH, a son of the late Joseph Henry and Mary Louise (Goulet) Platt. John was a lifelong resident of Groveton.

John served on active duty in the US Army from February of 1958 to November of 1960, then in the Reserves until January of 1964.

After returning from active duty, John went to work at Diamond International Paper Co. and worked for them, James River and Wausau Papers for a total of over thirty years. After retiring from the paper mill, John started working at the Maplewood Golf Course and worked there until he became ill just over two years ago. In his younger years, he was the manager of the Moose Club and Legion Softball teams. He was an avid Groveton Eagles fan and never missed a game. He enjoyed Bowling; Golfing; Basketball; and Softball. He was also an avid Boston Redsox and Celtics fan.

John was a member of the St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3 rd degree; the American Legion Post #17, Groveton.

John and his wife Corinne started dating in 1975 and were married on January 1, 1999.

John is survived by his son Paul Fournier and wife Brenda of Lewiston, ME; step-son Gregg Marshall and wife Lisa of Groveton; three granddaughters Heather Fournier; Jessica Fournier (Jeff); and Nicole "Nici" Marshall; three siblings Hadley Platt; Robert "Bobby" Platt, Sr. and Louise Charron and husband Dennis all of Groveton; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by in addition to his parents, his wife Corinne on February 15, 2022; and two sisters Jeanne Doolan and Eleanor Hook.

John's family would like to thank Mike and Nikki Doolan, their family, Dennis and Louise Charron, and all of the caregivers from North Country Home Health and Hospice for all the care and love they provided and showed John over the past few years.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 10:00 am at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery on Brown Road in Groveton. Arrangements are entrusted to the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
