JOHN WILLIAM WHITE, 78, of Bog Road North Stratford, died suddenly at his home on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Born in Dedham, Mass a son of Thomas Henry and Antonya "Wanda" (Lewandowski) White; he has been a resident of North Stratford since 1973, coming from Washington, DC, where he lived for many years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. While living in Washington he worked for the C.I. A. until retiring in 1973 when he moved to North Stratford. He was Police Chief in North Stratford for 20 years before retiring in the mid 1990's. He also served for many years as a Coos County Deputy Sheriff. John enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod and Virginia Beach with family and friends. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler and mowing the lawn. John also enjoyed talking with people and waving to friends and neighbors as they drove by the house. He is survived by his wife Helen M. White of North Stratford; daughter Sheila White and fiance Steve Wertz of Huntington, MD; sister Agnes Petrucci of Hanover, MA; Aunt Marie Lewandowski of Sloatsburg, NY; former mother-in-law Virginia "Rosie" Hurlbert of North Stratford, NH; mother-in-law Mary K. Gould of Wheelock, VT; sisters-in-law Sharon (Francis) White of North Stratford, NH; Alice Simpson of Wheelock, VT; Mary Della Camera and husband Frank of N. Branford, CT; Helen (Thomas) White of Hyde, MA;Dorothy Gould of Lyndonville, VT; brothers-in-law Richard Lewis of North Haven, CT; William Gould of Lyndonville, VT; family friend Patty Summers and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his faithful canine friend Cricket who followed him everywhere and kept him company for many years. John is predeceased by both his parents; his first wife Alice Hurlbert White; brothers Thomas and Francis; sister Catherine Random and sister-in-law Ruth Lewis. Calling hour will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 from 12 non until 1:00 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Services will follow at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor of St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish officiating. Inurnment will be in the Center Stratford Cemetery in the spring.
