KENNETH BRUCE 'KENNY' OAKES, SR., 65, died suddenly at his home on Monday October 16, 2006. Born in Concord, NH on September 16, 1941 the son of Philip H and Dorothea (Rogers) Oakes he grew up in the Groveton/Stark areas and has been a resident of Groveton for the last 20 years. He was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1960. Kenny was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, post #17, Groveton. He was a past forest fire warden for the town of Stark and he was the current forest fire warden for O'Dell (Nash Stream). He was a loving husband, son, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Red Sox Fan. Kenny is survived by his wife of 44 years Mary (Parks) Oakes of Groveton; his four children and their spouses; Valerie Leborgne and husband Donald of Berlin; Kristine Fraser and husband Donald of Lancaster; Dorothea "Dee Dee" Towle and husband David of Waxahatchie, Texas; and Kenneth Oakes, Jr. and wife Danielle of Dalton. Six grandchildren; Bethany Patoine; Dawn Fraser; Devin Oakes; Ethan Oakes; David towel and Daniel Towle; two great grandchildren Joshua York and Marissa Patoine also survive him. Kenny is also survived by his father and step-mother Philip and Alberta Oakes of Groveton along with one half brother Bruce Oakes and his wife Janice of Stark and aunts, uncle, cousin and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home; 100 State Street; Groveton. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 20th at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Sherry O'Bara, pastor of the Groveton and Stark United Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will be in the Northumberland Cemetery following cremation and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a children's charity of ones choice.
