Lee Edward Hawksley, 82, of Groveton passed in his home on November 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, following a courage battle with cancer.
Lee was born on January 8,1943, in Lancaster, NH, the son of the late Fay and Alberta (Astle) Hawksley. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Oriole M. (Gagnon) Hawksley of Groveton, three daughters Diana & Mike Wiggett of Epsom, Sandra & Chuck Tracy of Concord, and Karen & Mike Moran of Penacook, along with his grandchildren and their families, Kevin & Dr. Alycia Abbott Kezar, Kristin (Kezar) & Andy Boehm, Savannah Tracy, Bryce Moran, James Tracy & fiancee Tanya Casilli, and Kimberly (Tracy) & Jon Hayes and several great-grandchildren, with another great granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers in-law, Theresa & Ron Germain of Lancaster, Tom & Gloria (Brisson) Covell of Groveton, Lorraine & Arnold Knowlton of Bellows Falls, VT, and Alfred & Carol Gagnon of Cumberland, ME, and his Aunt Carolyn (Savage) Astle or Connecticut, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Juanita Merrill and sister-in-law Gloria J. (Gagnon) Covell.
Lee was a 1961 graduate of Groveton High School where after graduation he briefly worked at the Paper Mill in Groveton and then entered the United States Navy and served proudly from 1962-1966 as a Chaplains Yeoman. After his honorable discharge, he went back to work at Groveton Paper Company and retired in 1998 from Wausau Paper Company after 37 years. In his retirement, he worked at Santa's Village as Santa's helper for 11 years. In his younger years, he followed in his father's footsteps for 26 years as a volunteer fireman for the town of Groveton.
Lee's passions were hunting, fishing and spending as much time at his family camp at 14 ½ (Little Bog Pond). He was a proud member of the Groveton American Legion Post #17, where he served many years as Commander and several other offices and on committees. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots and cheering for his children and grandchildren during their sporting events.
At Lee's request, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life including Military Honors will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the American Legion, Post #17, 206 State St., Groveton, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a brief prayer and Military Honors starting at 1:30 pm with socializing following. Burial will be at a later date at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
