MADELEINE "MAD" "MADDY" "MEME" (GALLANT) CROTEAU, died peacefully on June 13, 2020, at The Morrison in Whitefield just one month before her 84th birthday, due to complications of her recent stroke.
"Maddy" was born on July 13, 1936, in Berlin, NH a daughter of Donat and Annette (Gagnon) Gallant. She moved to Stark as a young child when her parents purchased the Stark General Store. She married the love of her life, Donald Croteau on July 18, 1955, at the Holy Angels Church in Percy.
Over the years she worked as a bank teller for the local banks in Groveton; was a secretary at the local paper mill; and was a paraprofessional at the Stark Village School.
Maddy was involved in the 4-H youth program; Stark Bicentennial Committee; Stark Improvement Fund; German-American Friendship Day and events that followed after that; Stark Union Church Pew Owner's Association; St. Francis Xavier Church Parish Celebration; Stark Heritage Center; Stark Village School Renovation Committee. In addition to community service, she enjoyed sewing, making crafts, and spending time with her family.
Maddy is survived by her children Irene Shover and husband Michael of Bradford, VT; Dennis Croteau and wife Susan of Stark; Peter Croteau of Concord; Susan Fogg and husband Daniel of Stark; and John Croteau of Stark; seven grandchildren Jamie Colby; Nathan Croteau; Ashley Arsenault; Danielle Brier; Jessica Croteau; Dereck Croteau and Seth Fogg; nine great-grandchildren and one sister Yvonne Wheeler of Berlin.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Donald on January 17, 2016.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home; 100 State St., Groveton. Mass will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at 10:00 am at the St. Francis Xavier Church; 10 State St., Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be on Friday, June 19, 2020, at 1:00 pm in the Emerson Road Cemetery in Stark.
