Margaret "Peg" Elizabeth Sheltry, 84, of 247 Lancaster Road died on Monday, May 17, 2010 at Weeks Memorial Hospital from complications following a fall which involved a broken hip. She was born Dec. 2, 1925 in Lunenburg, Vt. to William McKearney and Marion (Scott) McKearney. She was the youngest of six children. On April 11, 1944 she married Richard "Dick" Sheltry of Groveton and over the next five and a half years had three children: Brenda, Charlotte, and Steve. In 1961, she and Dick build their life-long home on Lancaster Road. Peg was known for her ability to raise almost any kind of plant, including her large Begonia, which was placed by her front door; she was known for Christmas crafts which she donated to the church; the making of Halloween costumes for her children; assisting with decorating for Groveton High School events when her children were students; and sewing and knitting for her family. She was a terrific cook and was famous for her apple pie. Members of her family include her two daughters, Brenda Dowst of Sunapee, NH, and Charlotte Sheltry of Groveton, and her son Stephen Sheltry of Lisbon, N.H; nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church on Church Street in Groveton on Thursday, May 20 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Northumberland Cemetery.
