MARY E. SHANNON, 93, of McKee Inn, Lancaster, died peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2023, at The Morrison in Whitefield, where she had been since October of 2022 due to a period of failing health.
Mary was born in Berlin, NH, on April 12, 1930, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ida (Barlow) Shannon. She grew up in Sussex, New Brunswick, and graduated from Sussex High School in 1947.
She moved to Groveton, NH, in 1948 and lived there until 1958. She then lived in Burlington, VT from 1958 to 1974; Stark, NH from 1974 to 2009; and then Lancaster, NH from 2009 to October of 2022 when she became a resident at The Morrison.
Over the years, Mary worked in a variety of occupations, including her time as an accountant at the Groveton Mill office and as the Cook Manager at Trinity College and UVM. She then purchased the Stark General Store and was the sole proprietor for twenty years before selling it in 1993. She was the Mill Brook Inn manager in Stark from 1999 until 2007.
Mary loved spending time with her family and friends and was very fond of watching the birds and wild animals, snowshoeing, listening to music, singing, and playing the ukulele. She was a very loyal friend to many.
Mary is survived by three children: David Lajoie and wife Roberta of Lancaster, NH, Wendy McMann and husband Bryan of North Stratford, and Lennie Fournier and wife Melinda of Palmdale, CA; one granddaughter, Amber; four grandsons: Robert, Scott, Dwayne, and Phillip; three great-grandsons: Garrett, Tucker, and Zach; one great-great-grandson, Emmitt; one brother, Joseph Shannon of Stark/Lancaster; one sister, Helen Maculley of Wilmington, Delaware; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and great nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers: Edward Shannon, Otis Shannon, and Fred Shannon; and one sister, Jean Fairweather.
Private family service will be held at a later date in the Northumberland Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
