MAURICE PLATT CONNARY, 89, of Birch St. Island Pond, VT died peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Newport Health Care Center in Newport, VT after a short illness.
He was born in Stratford, NH on January 15, 1927 a son of Howard C. and Anna K. (Platt) Connary. He was a graduate of Stratford High School class of 1945.
Maurice lived most of his life in Stratford; he lived in Groveton from 1954-1961 then moved back to Stratford until moving to Island Pond twenty-nine years ago.
Before retiring from James River Corp. he worked for forty-two years as a Boiler Operator, and while working in the mill he was a school bus driver; bark truck driver and even tried logging.
After retirement he worked for six years as a security guard at Burke Lumber in Burke, VT and Willough Vale Inn in Willoughby, VT. He loved hunting; fishing tying flies and going to the camps at Stratford Bog, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Maidstone Lake, Percy Road and Nash Stream. He was a lifetime member of the Silver Brook Camp in Nash Stream and the National Riffle Association. He loved to pick fiddle heads in the spring.
He was a member of the Groveton Fish and Game and was a Hunters Safety Instructor.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 69 years Constance "Connie" Connary of Island Pond; two children Maurice G. "Mickey" Connary and Nancy Connary both of Island Pond; six grandchildren Guy Marier and wife Robin of Berlin, NH; Sue-Ann Connary of Springfield, NH; Deanna Marier Gathier and husband Duane of Smith Station, AL; Bryan Connary and wife Dannielle of Groveton, NH; and Shawn Connary and wife Lori of Webster, Texas; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one brother John Connary and wife Becky of Nashua, NH.
He was predeceased by his parents; one son William "Bill" Connary in 1972; one grandson Thomas "Tommy" Connary in 1993; two sisters Constance Connary and Anne Connary White.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 10:00 am -11:30 am at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:30 am at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Deveau of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton officiating. Burial will be on June 18, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Center Stratford Cemetery.
