MILDRED MARGARET "PAPPY SUE" GARFIELD, died on January 27, 2014 at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook after a sudden illness, just six days after her 72nd birthday. She was born in Concord, VT on January 21, 1942 a daughter of Howard H. and Melba C. (Bunnell) Donaghy. "Sue" has been a resident of North Stratford most of her life, coming from Concord Corners, Vermont. She worked for Meals on Wheels in North Stratford for over thirty-two years. She also worked as a school crossing guard; and a nurse's aid at Country Village Center in Lancaster. "Sue" grew up with a hard working family and logging with horses. She enjoyed spending time with her family at special gatherings. "Sue" is survived by her long-time companion Sylvian Sweatt, Jr. of North Stratford; her children Sharon Martin of St. Johnsbury, VT; Annette Parrow and partner Hazen Sweatt of Columbia, NH; Mark Garfield, Sr. of St. Johnsbury, VT; Walter Garfield of Island Pond, VT; Dennis and Kim Sweatt of Canaan, VT; and Dwayne and Cara Sweatt of Stewartstown, NH; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings Pauletta Partridge of Lyndonville, VT; Alice Sausville of St. Johnsbury Center, VT; Marion and Dean Sweatt of Groveton, NH; Christine and John Oliver of Kirby, VT; Lana Mitchell of Lyndonville, VT; Howard Donaghy of St. Johnsbury, VT; Kenny Donaghy of Sheffield, VT; William Donaghy of Gilman, VT; Dale and Rose Donaghy of Lyndonville, VT and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Charles Ernest Garfield, Jr.; a daughter-in-law Diane Garfield; Son-in-law Elmo Martin; three brother-in-laws Solon Partridge; Gery Mitchell and Ronald Ash, Sr.; and one sister-in-law Florence "Tootie" Brown. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton, NH from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 am in the West Side Cemetery in Concord, VT.
