RAYMOND ROBERT "SONNY" NEWTON, 85, of East Concord, VT, died peacefully at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, in St. Johnsbury, on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Sonny was born on February 24, 1939, in Groveton, NH the son of the late Raymond Ellsworth and Sarah Isabelle (Tippitt) Newton, and was a resident of Groveton until moving to East Concord about eleven years ago.

Sonny worked for 37 years for Groveton Paper Mill until he retired. After retiring, he mowed lawns for other people to keep himself busy. He loved playing guitar and spending time with family and friends.

Sonny is survived by three Neil Newton and wife Amy, Patricia Newton-Howland and husband Jimmey, and Wayne Newton and wife Karen all of Groveton, five grandchildren Amy, Crystal, Michael, Raymond, and Kristen, twelve great-grandchildren, five siblings Donny, Alice, Rena, Neva, and Brian, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his partner Rosalie Quimby.

He was predeceased by one son Kevin, his wife Sandra, and one sister Daphne.

A graveside service will be held in May 2025 in the Ridgewell Cemetery in Guildhall, VT. The Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton is handling the arrangements.
