RICHARD JAMES GILMAN I, 89, of Stark, died peacefully at his home on Monday, May 1, 2023, after a lengthy illness.

Richard was born on October 26, 1933, in Groveton, NH a son of the late Antonio J. and Nancy (Young) Gilman. He was a resident of Groveton until moving to Stark with his wife Lillian 58 years ago.

Richard was a veteran of the US Air Force. He attended the Cross Roads Community Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird-watching and in his younger years gardening.

Before retiring, he worked for many years for James River and Wausau Paper companies.

Richard is survived by four children Richard Gilman II and wife Nicole of Berlin, NH; Monica Cronauer and husband Alan of Lunenburg, VT; Stephen Gilman and wife Julie of Stark; and Donald Gilman and wife Rosemary of Grovetown, GA; eight grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Antonio Gilman and Nancy (Young) Chadwick; his wife Lillian Gilman on January 22, 2008; and his brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home at 100 State St.; Groveton, NH from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Richard J. Gilman II officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Emerson Road Cemetery in Stark.
