ROBERT EDWARD CARNEY, of Eames St., Groveton died suddenly at his home on October 22, 2018, just twelve days before his 86 th birthday.
He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on November 3, 1932, a son of Thomas E. and Alice (Devine) Carney. He lived in Groveton, NH for many years after his time in the military until moving to Rindge, NH where he lived with his wife Shirley for twenty years before moving back to Groveton one and a half years ago.
Robert served his country for twenty-two years, from 1949 - 1971, serving in both the US Army and Air Force. While serving in the military he sailed with the Kennedys; was in the ring with Joe Lewis and his band played before the Bob Hope show at the USO.
He was a bookkeeper and handled finances and taxes for many local residences over the years. He worked for James River Corp for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and was a manager for the Rindge post for years.
He was very active in the Contoocook Lake Area Preservation Association; was a past Library Trustee and Board member for the Ingles Memorial Library in Rindge; some of his proudest moments came during his affiliations with the Neighbors Give in Rindge and the Kitty Rescue and Adoption Center. Bob was a past member of the Stay North group in Groveton and a current member of the Old Home Day committee in Stratford.
Robert is survived by his wife of 20 years; Shirley Carney of Groveton; his five children Denise Beck of Nashua; Michael Carney and wife Anne-Marie of Southport, NC; Pamela Fenoff and husband Matthew of Bismarck, ND; Steve Carney and Susan Carney of Newmarket, NH; his three step-children Lisa King and husband Lenny of Stark, NH; Lori Groleau and husband Pierre of Sharon, NH and David Dowland and wife Lara of Jaffrey, NH; his grandchildren Matt Carney; Ryan Carney; Adam Beck; Mike Carney and wife Candace; Josh Venuti; Jillian Venuti; Carolyn Soto and husband Jesse; Kirah Carney; Alexandra Fenoff and Reyer Fenoff; step-grandchildren Melissa King; Daniel Groleau; Patrick Groleau and Quinn Dowland; great-grandchildren Demitri Garza; Elle Soto and Roeck Soto; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his four siblings Vera; Celia; Jack and Thomas.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, from 5-7 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 11:00 am at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton with Military Honors following immediately after outside of the church. Burial of Cremains will be at a later date in the St. Francis Cemetery in Groveton.
