Obituary

RONALD E. GONYER, 69, formerly of Groveton died peacefully at Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown, were he has been a resident since 2005, after a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster, NH on October 4, 1939 a son of the late Lawrence and Mildred (Smith) Gonyer, he grew up in Groveton and attended Groveton schools. Ron lived several years in Brockton, Mass and Windsor, VT before moving to West Stewartstown. February 12, 1965 Ronald joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served his Country until March 13, 1973. During this time he served three tours in Vietnam, received his National Defense service medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. Ronald is survived by three brothers Lawrence Gonyer and wife Rita of Bow, NH; John Gonyer and wife Waneta of Maidstone, VT and Thomas Gonyer and wife Sandra of Groveton; two sisters Pauline Papineau of West Lebanon, NH and Marilyn Cronk and husband Lin of Chicopee, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by, in addition to his parents, four brothers Neil; Paul; Russell and James and four sisters Althea Palmer; Barbara Fish; Natelie Nutting and Romona Woodward. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the Northumberland Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Cox of the Groveton United Methodist Church officiating.
