SHIRLEY JUNE (MARSHALL) SAWYER, 82, of Second Street in Groveton, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Country Village-Genesis Elder Care Center in Lancaster after a short illness.
Shirley was born in Groveton, NH on April 22, 1936, a daughter of Herbert and Ruth M. (Stevens) Marshall. She lived in Groveton until moving to Canton, Connecticut in 1960 and then return home in 1996.
Shirley's greatest accomplishments other than raising her children were; getting her drivers license at the young age of 71 and then at the even younger age of 80 she graduated from Groveton High School with her diploma. She loved hiking and had hiked the complete Presidential Range; camping, knitting, and her word puzzles. She was very active in the church and was in charge of the luncheons for many years. Shirley was a huge Patriots and Red Sox fan. She was happiest when her whole family was together and when she was spending time with her grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered for her great sense of humor.
She is survived by five children Micheal Sawyer of Bloomfield, CT; Karen Kane and husband William of Collinsville, CT; Hollis Sawyer and wife Mary and Karl Sawyer and girlfriend Becky all of Groveton; and Mark Sawyer and wife Julie of Collinsville, CT; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard D. Sawyer; son Wayne Sawyer and his wife Kathleen; and her siblings Carolyn Pinette; Patricia Lang; Geraldine Wilkinson; Herbert Marshall and Stewart Marshall.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton from 4-6 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 11:00 am at the St. Francis Xavier Church; 11 State St.; Groveton; with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor officiating.
