STANLEY JAMES "JOE" EMERY, 91, of State Street, died peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Genesis Rehabilitation Center in Laconia, after a brief illness. "Joe" was born on November 14, 1921 in Groveton, NH a son of James L. and Margaret (McMahon) Emery and was a lifelong resident of Groveton. He was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1939. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during WWII. Before retiring Joe owned and operated JL Emery and Son Plumbing and Heating for several years; then worked for the State Fire Marshall's Office until retiring in 1986. He was a past member of the Groveton School Board and the Groveton Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a basketball referee and past president of the NHIAABO (New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association of Basketball Officials). He is survived by his four children Jeff Emery and wife Deborah of Wentworth, NH; Rony Emery and wife Donna of Grafton, Wisconsin; Mark Emery and wife Judy of Boulder, Colorado; and Rhonda Cardow and husband Gary of Seabrook, NH; six grandchildren Dana Bisson; Jeff Emery II; Bill Emery; Ashley Emery; Eric Emery and Kelly Emery; two great grand-children Alec Bisson and Julia Bisson; one brother Hollis Emery and wife Carolyn of Essex Junction, VT; one sister Jane Durnan and husband Vince of Meredith, NH; his companion of 15 years Pauline Marsh and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe was predeceased by his parents; his wife Marion Emery on May 11, 1997; one sister Arlene Sanborn and one brother-in-law Dean Sanborn. Calling hours will be held on Friday June 7, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor officiating.
