Obituary

WILLIAM H. "BILL" CROSS, 81, peacefully passed away on October 1, 2020, at his home in Whitefield. He is predeceased by his wife Brenda (Ives) Cross, son Scott, daughter Shelly, and his parents Fredrick and Gaynell (Jolbert) Cross.
Bill was born on October 10, 1938, and raised in Lancaster, NH. He enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from high school and served several years. While stationed in England he met his wife Brenda, where they were wed before returning to the United States. After his time with the Navy, Bill worked as a construction foreman, making his way to California, then various construction job sites throughout the country before settling in New England. He built his family home on Martin Meadow Pond, where it was filled with the joys of everyday life, from family celebrations to peaceful canoe rides with the loons. Joining the Loon Preservation Committee, Bill was well known in the area for advocating for the safety and protection of the loons. Bill was an avid hunter, spending many weekends with friends and family at the Hendee Homestead in Hornell, New York.
Forever remembered for his quick wit, humor, and dedication to his family, Bill will be deeply missed by his surviving family, his daughter Sheila Arita and husband Wes; Grandchildren Brandon Arita and partner Ayla; and Brittany Arita and partner Jon; his sister Shelby Cross; brothers Norman Cross and James Cross and wife Diane; niece Lynne Steel; nephews Fred Cross and wife Lisa; David Cross and wife Jill; Barry Steel and Ian Steel and wife Angela; in-laws James Steel and wife Sheila; and Brian Steel; and the White family, Mike; Maggie; Rick; Sandy and Diane.
Graveside service with Military Honors, will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020, at 11:00 am in the Summer Street Cemetery in Lancaster with Fr. Timothy Brooks, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to either the Loon Preservation Committee at loon.org/donate, or to the VA Medical Center at volunteer.va.gov/apps/volunteernow
