Obituary

CECILE ANNETTE (MARIER) CANTON (Memere) , 61, of North Stratford, died peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the Jack Byrne Center of Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH after a sudden illness.

On November 24, 1960, Cecile was born in Stewartstown, NH the daughter of Roger Emile and Beatrice Louise (Bissonnette) Marier. She was a lifelong resident of North Stratford. She was a graduate of Stratford High School, class of 1978. Following high school she earned an Associate's Degree.

Cecile dedicated her career to caring for the mentally handicapped. First working for Northern Human Services in Colebrook, followed by being a home care provider for Dale Willey for many years until his passing on March 11, 2010. She then worked for Northeast Kingdom Human Services, retiring in December of 2021.

Cecile loved watching crime shows on TV; playing solitaire, and caring for others. She was a hard worker and a self-made handywoman. Her two favorite things were spending time with her granddaughter, son, and her cat Bug Eyes.

Cecile is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Lorna Holcombe and their daughter Bristol all of Passumpsic, VT; her step-children Amy Martin and husband Nick of Statesville, NC; Billy Canton and wife Chantel and Jon Cochran all of Barre, VT; one sister Aline Shallow, and one brother Frank Marier both of North Stratford and one sister-in-law Karen M. Canton of Newport, VT; many nieces and nephews.

Cecile was predeceased by her parents; husband Ronald Canton on August 20, 2009; sister Pauline Hurlbert; two brothers Real Marier and Marcel Marier; one niece Michelle Hurlbert and one nephew Guy Marier.

At Cecile's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 11:00 am in the Fairview Cemetery on Old Mill Rd, North Stratford with Fr. Timothy Brooks officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Cecile's name to the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care; 154 Hitchcock Loop Rd.; Lebanon, NH 03756.
