LEONARD RALPH "BILL" JOHNSON , 93, died peacefully at The Summit by Morrison, on Friday, February 25, 2022, after a brief illness.
Bill was born on August 5, 1928, in Groveton, NH a son of the late Ralph Rudolph Johnson and Madeline Laura (Currier) Johnson. He was raised and lived in Groveton most of his life until moving to Littleton for 24 years and then to Whitefield.
Bill was a veteran of the US Army and served his country from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Groveton American Legion, Post #17.
Before retiring, Bill worked for James River Paper Co. until 1990. He loved working in his greenhouse where he grew vegetables and berries. He also loved his flower garden; woodworking, carving ducks, loons and owls. He enjoyed drawing and painting with watercolors. Bill was an outdoors-man and also enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing and walking.
Bill is survived by his three children David Johnson and wife Karen of Milton, NH; Laurie Leonard and husband David of Whitefield; and Doreen "Dodie" Smith of Lancaster; Seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Aleta on December 29, 1983; his second wife Margaret "Loretta" in 2017; four siblings Kenneth; Rodney; Muriel Stevenson and Dorothy "Dottie" Prescott and one great-grandson Mason Parsons.
At Bill's request, there will be no calling hours or service at this time. Graveside service with Military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 11:00 am in the Northumberland Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the Loon Preservation Committee of NH; PO Box 604; Moultonborough, NH 03254.
